So this is a way overdue post. Mark & Jamie had their engagement session several months ago here in Atlanta. They live in DC but their wedding will be here this October so they came over for their engagement session as well. They are such a sweet loving couple… I really enjoyed working with them and just can’t wait until October!
Here are a few photos from their day at the park!

A few days ago I posted Part I of this wonderful Engagement Session experience. That was what we did on the first day. The next day, we got up before the sun was out and headed over to the beach that is closer to High Point, the family compound. It was so gorgeous there as the sun started coming out, the large beach calm, quiet, the beautiful light…
After the beach we headed over to the First African Baptist Church, also on the northern end of the island. The famous place where John F. Kennedy Jr. married Carolyn Bessette there in 1996, the current structure was built in 1937 to replace the original 1893 church that was used by former slaves from the High Point-Half Moon Bluff community. The church is built of whitewashed logs and adorned with a cross made of sticks and a few handmade pews.![]()

Afterwards, we headed back to the compound. I had to stop on the way to get a shot on the road with those gorgeous live oaks with lots of Spanish moss…![]()
Back at High Point I could not resist asking Sam & Sarah to climb up one of the beautiful live oak trees in the property… ![]()

I love this final shot on the tree…![]()
Thanks again Sarah and Sam!!! It was wonderful to work together and to experience Cumberland Island in such a special way. Rich and I both look forward to a fabulous wedding day in just a few months!

This was not your typical engagement session. When Sarah and Sam booked their wedding they mentioned that is was really important that their engagement session be at Cumberland Island. Sam’s family owns property in the north part of the island and the extended family spends a lot of time there. Sarah has been there many times since they started dating, and that is where Sam proposed over the 4th of July weekend. So of course this place is more than meaningful to them and it was a pleasure to be invited to photograph them there.
With Sarah going back to school in a few days and our calendar pretty filled up already, we were thrilled to find a weekend that worked for all… and then, a few days before, a tropical storm is forecasted to come straight towards the Georgia-Florida eastern seaboard… Oh-no! We spent so much time stalking the National Hurricane Center’s website those days! But then the storm lost strength and dissipated… whew!
This was a really unique experience since Cumberland Island is a National Seashore, the only way to access it is by boat, and no cars –other than those of property owners and in limited quantities– are allowed. It was very fun to have Sam drive Rich and I up and down the island to scout the locations they wanted to use. There are no paved roads and the few existing roads are not only super narrow but extremely bumpy. Our first tour of the island was in an open jeep and I ended up covered in sand everywhere!…. but oh-how-fun!
We started on the beach in the southeastern part of the island where there is a large jetty formation. We went to the northern beach the following morning. No matter which part of the beach you go to, you will be amazed at how beautiful it is over there. So calm and quiet and with so much wild life everywhere!
Then we cut across over to the western side of the island towards The Dungeness ruins stopping by a cute little wooden walkway on our way there…![]()
![]()
The Dungeness ruins are a wonderful place and host to several groups of the famous Cumberland Island wild horses.![]()
This cute little calf was just adorable! But see how skinny he is? Not much good grass for them to eat, and they cannot be fed so that they remain wild. I was actually amazed at how calm they are around people in general. I expected them to get spooked much more easily but I guess they were hungry…. and are probably used to visitors coming by.![]()
![]()
I LOVED Sarah’s hat! I thought it completed her look perfectly. ![]()
![]()
![]()
Not all the wild life is cute though, but there is a place for everyone in the island! ![]()
![]()
How cool is the back of Sarah’s dress?!![]()

Our next stop was Plum Orchard Mansion, Sarah’s favorite house in the island. The live oaks all over the island are gorgeous!![]()

Our last stop for the day was the western marsh beach area. This is actually where they got engaged. We were hoping for one of the very famous sunsets there but it was a cloudy evening. I believe the place is just beautiful anyhow. And considering how lucky we got with the weather, we were all very happy regardless!![]()

And this was the first day on the island. It was late, we were all tired and off we went to enjoy a delicious meal that Sarah and Sam cooked for us. After a nice evening in good company, we all trotted off to bed, since we planned on starting by sunrise the next day. So come back soon to see the rest of this gorgeous session.

Sometimes you sit down for that very first meeting and almost instantly know you really want to work with that couple. That was the feeling I had when I met Ana and Allan. They are so fun and easy going… and they are super cute together! A few weeks ago we went out for their Engagement Session. I still remember Ana’s question "would it be OK if we do our engagement session some place unusual?"… well, of course I do! And so, off we went to their unusual location: Oakland Cemetery. I love Oakland. I have been there several times and shot there before, but never done and E-Session there so I was really happy about it.
Here are a few shots of the session at Oakland…![]()

I really enjoy engagement sessions. They are fun, relaxed and such a wonderful way to get to know each couple better and have some camera time together.
Can’t wait to see them say their vows late in August.

I met Emily several years ago when her sister Beth Ann got married. I have since worked with many of their friends and kept up with their lives and was so excited when Emily contacted me early this year to ask if we were available for their wedding. It was actually quite an honor that she contacted us first of all, before even securing her venue!
So in a few months we will be heading to Amelia Island, FL for three days of wedding bliss! And we just can’t wait.
Now, about their engagement session. Emily & Andrew live in Knoxville, so right after my Nashville session, I drove over to Knoxville to meet with them and have some photo fun. I have never been in Knoxville before and I loved it! Plus, I just love Emily and Andrew is a great guy too, so it was a very enjoyable time.
We got started at Andrew’s parent’s home…
Apparently the water was really cold!![]()
We then went over to an area close to Emily’s place and they brought over a tandem bike that has been Emily’s since she was a little kid. I loved that!![]()
Romantic enough for you?
A beautiful place, don’t you think?![]()
I have a special place in my heart for Emily and her family and I just can wait to see them all together again to celebrate her an Andrew’s wedding! We went down to Amelia Island a few years ago for Beth Ann’s wedding and we felt like part of the family. They treated us with so much love and cared for us so well.. this is when work is so not work!

Several weeks ago I had the pleasure of going on a little trip of Tennessee for a couple of engagement sessions. First stop, Nashville. I love this city and need to spend more time there next time. I always say the same, but I really just have to go there for fun.
Although this session was already lots of fun. Mary Rachel and Bo met at Vanderbilt -they actually just graduated in May- so they wanted to start the session there.
It is a lovely campus… and a lovely couple…
Then we went over to downtown…![]()
I couldn’t resist going into the biggest ever cowboy boot store… another reason for me to go back!![]()
Mary Rachel suggested we go over to the walking bridge. I had never been there, and we waited for a while to get blue hour… totally worth it!![]()
They are both such a nice, relaxed and down to earth couple… The wedding is in November at Country Club of the South. Can’t wait!

Let me share a little story about how we met Lindsey. This past Summer Rich and I took a couple f days off in Indian Pass, right next to Cape St. Blas, FL., on our way to shoot a wedding at the Watercolor Inn. One night we go out to the Raw Bar, a very famous local dive with amazing seafood. We sit on this community table and Lindsey, her mom and younger brother sit right next to us. We chat, mention why we are there, Lindsey happily announces she is newly engaged and getting married the following Spring, we share some portfolio photos from my iPhone, she calls as son as they are back from their vacation, we meet, she books us. Talk abut being in the right place at the right time, and about the emotional connection with a client.
I was thrilled because I immediately liked them all, and the more I got to know Lindsey, the more I loved her sweet, fun and upbeat demeanor and her appreciation of our work.
Lindsey and Rob had their engagement session in the fall. They brought the adorable little Berkley -their four legged kid- and we had a real fun time.
Lindsey & Rob got married this past weekend. So check back soon for some wedding photos!
